How To Register A Snowbike Kit

  • #ane

I'm in the process of getting my timbersled installed on a 2008 KTM 530 EXW (plated) merely am curious how others have gone about getting a snowmobile tag for their snowbikes.

The DOL/DMV had no clue other and so switching my bikes registration to a snowmobile...no thanks.

Perhaps registering the stamped VIN number off the timbersled as a snowmobile? Either way sucks as now I get to pay gas tax for my license plate in the summer and track in the wintertime.

If you lot can figure it out as a snowmobile, your tags should merely be $10 for 2 years. Non besides bad compared to some areas.

an ohv permit is all you need.

To ready it up as a snowmobile I would need to register the timbersled kit as a snowmobile since I will not modify the bicycle registration. I guess information technology does have a VIN on information technology so I can endeavour that.

an ohv permit is all you need.

Exercise you accept any references that this is true? I idea license plates and OHV tags are not adequate since they don't pay for grooming, plowing, etc...

Thanks,
Kell

I talked to my buddie chris today and he said that'due south all he has on his ktm with a timbersled kit. he rides generally out of hoodoo and said he's never had a trouble. if you ride where the greenies live to bust people, i'd call dmv and see just what they say yous have to have. or simply ride where at that place are no greenies:)

An ohv tag volition not piece of work and technically it is illegal to ride a wheeled ohv on a snowmobile trail in Oregon anyways. It's posted pretty clearly in many areas, at present I'm not taking talking year circular, just December 1st through Apr is what I have seen posted.

I've had the joys of dealing with titling issues, to get a snowmobile tag you must be registered and titled, y'all tin can not simply buy the $10 tag and be out the door but if your already plated and titled I could run across them issuing yous 1. Or yous could try and annals-title the timbersled kit. Yous will need to take it to DMV, they will not effect a title without an vin inspection if the vin has no record of registration/title.

When I went to the DMV they said in that location was no mode to give me a snowmobile tag unless the plate/registration was specific to a snowmobile. They had no idea how to handle it (surprise...) and told me to get out my phone number and they would call me back. That was nigh a month agone...

I merely installed the kit and then loading it to go to the DMV for a VIN inspection sounds like a pain but probably my best bet.

Those people are stupid! If someone on snowest works at OR DMV
I am deplorable you are stupid!
I would not effort to difficult to assist them. You can't ready stupid.
I put a VE tunnel on a Thundercat project years agone and they fabricated me have the sled to the Country Police so he could await at information technology and say "Yep it'south a snowmobile alright" Then the cop "questioned me" as to why I would do that? I had to flip it on him and tell him it was really none of his business WHY... merely sign the course.
This whole dealing with the State stuff is frustrating. I avert it at all cost.
I attempt to all of it online if possible.
If yous can get something in writing that says they cannot or are too stupid to help y'all. You could explicate it to the forest service. They are the guys that have been patrolling around Crescent lake to Diamond lake.
Personally I would pay the fine earlier I would go to DMV
Good Luck

For others reference, I made it upwardly to Blewett this weekend and ran into the sheriff. He agreed it was even so a "loop pigsty" and that there was no correct way to accost it notwithstanding. He said that he was counting ORV tags every bit adequate. However this could come downwards to the interpretation of each sheriff so nothing is guaranteed.
